Diverticulitis Cure
Tips To Help Heal Your Diverticulitis....
Anyone who suffers from diverticulitis is always asking themselves the same question. Is
there such a thing as a diverticulitis cure? But this may be the wrong question to ask.
As diverticulitis and diverticular disease in general are essentially diseases
of lifestyle a more useful question to ask would be how can I make the changes necessary in my lifestyle so that diverticulitis will be a thing
of the past?
As everyone knows prevention is better than cure. So if there is a
diverticulitis cure it has more to do with making the appropriate dietary changes rather than some magic
bullet drug or surgical procedure.
As we know diverticular disease is widespread throughout the
Western world. The beginning of the spread of diverticulitis can be traced back to the beginning
of our use of low fibre and processed foods.
The diet that most people in the Western world follow predisposes them to disorders such as
constipation which have been proven to be one of the main contributor factors, if not the cause, of diverticulitis.
The diverticulitis "cure" then, centres around the elimination of these low fibre content and
highly processed foods. As we eliminate these from our diet we then need to incorporate high-fibre nutritious foods free of preservatives and
processing.
Basically we are looking at natural whole grains and fresh fruits and vegetables, and making
them the mainstay of our daily diet.
Additionally we need to look at hydration and the amount of water that we drink, or don't
drink, on a daily basis.
Inadequate water intake can be a contributing factor to constipation. If we increase our
water intake to at least the generally recommended eight glasses (2 litres) and combine that with
an increase in daily fibre (both soluble and insoluble fibre) we can guarantee a more efficient and
less stressful to the bowel itself bowel movement.
If the bowel movement is smooth and easy the formation of
diverticula (pouch like protuberances in the colon that can lead to diverticulitis) is greatly reduced thus
lessening the likelihood of diverticulitis developing.
In this way by simply changing our diet from a highly processed low fibre typically western
diet to a diet rich in high-fibre foods and increasing and fluid intake we give ourselves the best chance of preventing the occurrence of
diverticulitis.
The unfortunate thing with this particular cure for
diverticulitis is that the responsibility during the condition falls squarely on us. Long-term lifestyle changes are
notoriously difficult to make, with most of us becoming serial re-offenders and reverting back to our old ways as soon as the problem has
passed. Unfortunately long-term lifestyle changes are really the only diverticulitis cure guaranteed to get
results.
While there are numerous medicinal and herbal remedies and supplements that claim to be able
to eliminate diverticulitis, the truth the matter is that there is little they can do if we continue to maintain the lifestyle that is cause
the condition in the first place.
