What Is Diverticulitis?

What You Need To Know About Diverticulitis Right Here.....

Diverticulitis occurs when diverticula in the colon become infected and inflamed.

For the most part in the condition of diverticulosis there are very few if any symptoms. And whatever symptoms are present, are usually relatively minor digestive symptoms such as abdominal distension and bloating, constipation and mild abdominal cramping.

The symptoms usually come and go with those who suffer from diverticulosis usually just ignoring their relatively mild symptoms on the rare occasions that they become aware of them.

In the case of diverticulitis however the symptoms are much more severe.

As with any acute infectious and inflammatory condition fever and or chills is usually present. Additionally someone suffering from diverticulitis will experience significantly more severe abdominal and digestive pain and dysfunction than someone with diverticulosis.

Symptoms such as extreme nausea, vomiting, irregular bowel activity ( there can be constipation or diarrhoea and often alternating constipation and diarrhoea), much more severe distension and abdominal bloating, excessive flatulence and  quite severe abdominal pain when any pressure is put on the abdomen  (typically in the left lower abdominal area).

If the inflammation is severe and particularly close to blood vessels in the bowel, blood in the stools can be present. This presents the the possibility of significant loss of blood if left untreated with anaemia often occurring.

Painfull urination can often occur if the area close to the bladder is inflamed and infected.

As you see from the above symptoms, where it is possible to simply ignore the relatively minor symptoms of diverticulosis it would be impossible to ignore and live with diverticulitis without getting the appropriate diverticulitis treatment.

If you suffer from any of the above symptoms and suspect that you may have diverticulitis you need to see a trained medical professional as soon as possible in order to get a correct diagnosis and begin with the appropriate diverticulitis treatment plan.

The treatment plan may include the use of antibiotics and in severe cases surgery may be necessary. In addition to this a specific diverticulitis diet plan will need to be created to help you in the active acute phase of the disease as well as to guide you in making the appropriate lifestyle changes that will help prevent the recurrence of the diesease in the future.
